John S. Ragin
John S. Ragin left a distinct mark on Star Trek fans with his role as the investigative Federation officer Dr. Simon Van Gelder in the Original Series episode "The Menagerie." Although his Star Trek appearances were limited, his portrayal added a crucial layer to the mysterious and morally complex story centered on Captain Pike and the disabled USS Enterprise. In the TNG episode "Suspicions," the title available here, Ragin’s name reemerges as a reminder of actors who helped deepen Star Trek’s human drama beyond the main bridge crew. Outside Star Trek, Ragin is also remembered for his role as Dr. Leonard Marsh in the series Quincy, M.E.
