Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise respond to a distress signal from a Federation colony where residents are suffering strange madness and death. Upon arrival, Kirk, Spock, and Dr. McCoy discover a covert invasion by parasitic alien creatures that threaten the colony and potentially the population of an entire planet. The Enterprise team races against time to identify the nature of these invasive organisms and devise a strategy to halt their spread before they can annihilate millions of lives.
