When Ensign Harry Kim vanishes inside the holodeck during a simulation of the epic poem Beowulf, and Chakotay and Tuvok soon disappear as well, the Doctor is uploaded into the holographic environment to investigate. The crew must confront the mysterious threat posed by the legendary creature Grendel while navigating the challenges of the medieval setting within Voyager’s holodeck.
